Good Morning, Father

Here we are to worship, to lift up our hearts and our voices in praise of the One who created us, who lived and died for us, and who leads us into eternity. You are truly worthy of our praise, and we give you all honor and glory. We want to know you. We want to have direct communication with you and talk to you as one friend to another. But sometimes, Father, you can be frightening. It would be so much more comfortable to keep you at a certain distance. With the people we know, we have our comfort zones, and we let different people into different levels of our comfort. Oftentimes, we would also like to have a God zone, a certain area where we can keep you, where we are safe with you, a place that we can go to or not. But you are not satisfied with living in the God zone. You don't want parts of us, you want all of us. You want to take us way beyond our comfort and take us to the places where we are walking on thin air, living by faith, trusting you for security and safety. And you have purpose in this, for it is in the most uncomfortable times of our lives that you change us and make us like Jesus. You have given us gifts that are honed by difficult and frightening times. You ask us to use these gifts to “administer your grace,” as the Scripture says, to give you our all and make our entire lives a God zone. Help us to let go of fear, Father, and to trust that your love knows no bounds and that though the life of complete surrender is one of unpredictability and oftentimes adventure, it is also a life of joy and peace.
